Sticking to our sustainable promise with an ethical adhesive

A question we get asked a lot about our toilet paper, is ‘is it actually environmentally-friendly?’. Before we started our sustainability journey, we did A LOT of research into the pros and cons between using virgin fibres or recycled paper. To cut a long story (and hours of research) short; when paper sourced from sustainably managed forests is produced using low-emission, renewable energy resources, the climate impact can be significantly reduced. And because our raw materials come from a zero emissions paper mill factory which produces the most sustainable paper in the world, we know we’re doing good. (Interested in reading more? But another question that keeps cropping up is about the adhesive we use. Glue probably isn’t the first thing that crosses your mind when using toilet paper, but between each ply of paper there is a thin layer of glue to keep it all in tact, and a lot of adhesives contain gelatine extracted from animal proteins.

Living a vegan lifestyle has progressed from being mindful about your diet to creating a cruelty-free and ethical home. Taking this into account, we use a water-based, gelatine free adhesive between the plies in all our toilet rolls, and between the tissue and the cardboard tube. There’s also no added dyes, chemicals, scents, or pesticides, making our paper the ideal choice for those with sensitive skin as well as those wishing to avoid exposure to toxins.

We’re firm believers that you shouldn’t have to choose between the softness of a roll, its environmental impact, and keeping it within your household budget, which is why Nova Tissue toilet paper and kitchen towel is an affordable, compromise-free solution to this conundrum.
